Network and software engineer for Genesis Software.
I help produce a radar data acquisition system is based on FreeBSD, which uses custom acquisition hardware (I helped develop the PCI card we use to acquire the data). I am also required to maintain a network of Windows 95/8 and FreeBSD work stations, and keep up to date numerous pieces of software. I also use extensively and maintain the CVS repository, and also to advise on the use of CVS for other staff members.
My work sometimes involves travel to overseas locations to integrate and debug new systems in the field, I have so far been to Japan, the USA, Canada, Peru, Norway and Sweden.
Currently I am involved in the further development and customisation of these systems based on customer requirements. I have recently finished producing an install CD for our systems which enables us to install FreeBSD (with our patches) and all of the ancillary packages required by the system with minimal human intervention. I have updated the drivers required for our systems (PCI card and an RS485 card) to the latest stable version of FreeBSD (4.0), and also resolved other issues regarding upgrading our field systems.

This network comprised of 11 client machines running Windows 95, and one Windows NT 4.0 server. I was also required to install AccPac accounting software, and document installation and maintenance. During this time I undertook a MS SQL Server Administrator course.
