Ishizuchi-san is one of Japan's sacred mountains ("san" is actually just another word for "mountain" but is reserved for sacred mountains). It's also the highest point on Shikoku, the island where I live. On May 4th I hiked to the top of Ishizuchi-san with Martyn, Andy, and Matt. The weather was great. We drove up to a parking lot most of the way up the mountain. I want to do the real trek from the bottom sometime. From where we started it's not a tough hike, although the very last bit gets pretty hairy. The ascent is almost vertical and huge iron chains have been installed to assist in the climb.
